Lady Justice has been perverted by Christianity.

America is often called the “land of the free,” and yet it has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Ahh, the irony. This should bring tears to the eyes of Lady Justice, but she’s only a statue. And only Jesus-freaks believe that statues can cry.

The Drug War is the main culprit for this embarrassing level of incarceration, and it serves as a perfect example for The Gay Black Jew Law Test. It’s quite simple. For each law, one must ask, "If this law were to be successfully enforced 100% of the time, would that be good for society or bad?"

If every marijuana smoker were arrested tomorrow, for instance, our economy would grind to a halt. The Gay Black Jew would cease to exist. Productive citizens who contribute tax dollars would all of a sudden become a negative drain on the government.

Instead of paying taxes, these harmless marijuana users would
cost taxpayers roughly $20-30,000 per year of imprisonment for their completely victimless “crime.” Hollywood and the music industry would crumble. Families would be destroyed, creating hundreds of thousands of single parents. With the Drug War, the more people imprisoned, the more damage is done to society. It’s going on right now. The Drug War fails my law test miserably. It's one reason I think all drugs should be legalized. It may sound crazy, but legalization would drastically reduce crime, save the government billions of dollars each year, lead to better race relations and eliminate the lives ruined in inner cities every day because of drug law enforcement.

Conversely, if all murderers and rapists could be caught, our society would obviously benefit. Judgments carried out by a state or federal authority should be based on common sense, grounded in reality and behavioral science, rather than the views and moral judgments of a particular religion. Sodomy laws are a prime example of how Christianity can hijack common sense and the law (they’re still on the books in Virginia).And Christianity is at the root of how many of our laws were formed. No wonder many of our laws suck.

An argument can easily be made that the Drug War has roots in Christian thinking. Christians, though instructed not to judge “lest ye be judged,” do a hell of a lot of judging. Many Christians raise hell over abortion. That is a judgment. This attitude is best expressed by three quotes from Ultra-Christian and former Representative Tom Delay, who was once one of the most powerful people in the world as the House Majority Leader for several years.

From a 2001 Washington Post Magazine article:

“’…As we leave First Baptist, I ask DeLay about the many citizens who would be quite uncomfortable with the idea that he would mold the government in the belief that his religion – fundamentalist Christianity – had the only answers to society's problems. …DeLay looks me squarely in the eye and shakes his head sadly. ‘When faced with the truth, the truth hurts. It is human nature not to face that . . . People hate the messenger. That's why they killed Christ.’"

"…DeLay's America would stop gun control, outlaw abortion, limit the rights of homosexuals, curb contraception, end the constitutional separation of church and state, and adopt the Ten Commandments as guiding principles for public schools."

‘”…Our entire system is built on the Judeo-Christian ethic, but it fell apart when we started denying God,’ he says. ‘If you stand up today and acknowledge God, they will try to destroy you.’ His main mission, he says, is ‘to bring us back to the Constitution and to Absolute Truth that has been manipulated and destroyed by a liberal worldview.’"

Ironically, Tom Delay stood up and acknowledged god, and he was destroyed. Justice was served and when he resigned it was one of the happiest days of my life. Years from now I can imagine the fall of Tom Delay and then the recent mid-term elections as pivotal moments in our country’s path toward sanity. I only see one major problem: Tom Delay-type Christians don’t use birth control and vote at a higher rate. That means atheists, agnostics and moderates have to start having lots of unprotected sex.
